Department of Hygiene was organized in 1920 as part of the Faculty of Medicine at the State University of Turkestan. The founder of the department was Professor G.N. Pinegin who directed it from 1920 to 1927

In 1927 From 1928 to 1936 the department was headed by Associate Professor in the beginning, and then Professor Alexei V. Georgievskiy.

1928 to 1936 the department was headed at first senior lecturer and then professor  Boutin S.D. From 1937 to 1941 the department was headed by prof. Petrova M.A. During this period, the majority held the formation of relevant departments of hygiene as a subsidiary department of general hygiene.

During the Great Patriotic War the department was headed by Prof.. Moiseev S.V. in the safes. During this period he also worked Assoc. Magnitsky M.V.

From 1944 to 1966 the department was headed by Prof.. S.N. Babadjanov – One of the first graduates of the Medical Faculty of the University. With his participation in the composition of the department in 1963 was introduced a special section – radiation hygiene, after which the department was called “general and radiation hygiene.”

In 1967 the department was headed by Corresponding Member. Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, MD prof. A.Z.Zahidov, who led the department until 1977.

From 1978 to 1990 the department was headed by Prof.. N.S.Tadjibaeva.

Since September 1990, after the separation of the two institutions in the Tashkent State Medical Institute, Department of General and Radiation Hygiene of the Second Tashkent State Medical Institute led the first associate professor and then professor                        L.A. Ponomareva

From September 2012 became head of the department MD Salomova F.I.
