The department was founded in 1920
Professor Pinegin Grigoriy Nikolaevich. The founder and first head of the department was Professor Pinegin Grigoriy Nikolaevich (1920-1927) He was familiar with the organization of sanitary affairs in foreign countries, in particular, in the USA and England. G.N.Pinegin studied the work of water supply, water purification, waste incineration and other sanitary installations in these countries.From 1928 to 1929 and 1936-1937 the head of the department was Alexey Vasilievich Georgievsky. During this period, the main scientific work was devoted to the epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases. From 1928 to 1936, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Semyon Dmitrievich Bautin. During these years, the scientific activity of the department was devoted to the hygienic assessment of food products and the study of the influence of environmental factors on the human body.
Professor Petrova Mariya Anatolevna. From 1937 to 1941 the head of the department was Professor Petrova Mariya Anatolevna. The social direction of the department was further developed, while developing such areas as communal hygiene and occupational health. In 1942-1944 the department was headed by Professor Solomon Vladimirovich Moiseev. During these years, the scientific direction of the department is devoted to the problems of water supply, hygiene of water supply and sewerage.
Professor Babadjanov Sattar Nazimovich. From 1944 to 1966, the department was headed by Professor Sattar Nazimovich Babajanov, one of the first graduates of the medical faculty of the university. With his participation in the department in 1963, a special section was introduced – radiation hygiene, after which the department was named “General and Radiation Hygiene”He founded the school of helminthologists in Uzbekistan. He completed his Ph.D. thesis in 1942 and his doctoral dissertation in 1949. From 1950 to 1965 he was the dean of the Faculty of Sanitation and Hygiene. S.N. Babajanov is the author of over 100 scientific papers, including three monographs, textbooks and manuals. He was awarded the Order of «Fidokorona khizmatlari uchun».
Professor Zakhidov Abdulla Zakhidovich. In 1967–1977, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Abdulla Zakhidovich Zakhidov. During these years, the main direction of the department is devoted to the water supply of the population in a hot climate and the sanitary protection of water bodies. A.3. Zakhidov is the author of over 120 scientific articles and one monograph. A.Z. Zahidov supervised 23 scientific works, three of which are doctoral dissertations. He was awarded the orders “Fidokorona Khizmatlari Uchun”, “Kizil Bayrok”.
Professor Tadjibayeva Nelya Alievna. In 1977-1997, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Nelya Salievna Tadzhibaeva. In the years under the leadership of the first Uzbek female hygienist Professor Neli Tajibayeva, the main research work of the department was devoted to the sanitary protection of water and reservoirs. She is the author of over 200 scientific papers.
Professor Ponomareva Lyudmila Aleksandrovna. From 1990 to 2012, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Lyudmila Alexandrovna Ponomareva. In 1992 she defended her doctoral dissertation. She is the author of 2 textbooks, one monograph, 5 study guides, over 58 articles, 11 teaching aids, over 60 publications. Prepared 1 doctor of medical sciences and 7 candidates of medical sciences.
Within the framework of the international research project “Improving medical education at the Tashkent Medical Academy” with the University of Korea for 2016-2022, significant work was carried out to improve the educational process, research activities and strengthen the material and technical base of the department. In particular, in accordance with the Decree The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated May 5, 2017 No. 2955 “On admission to universities of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the 2017/2018 academic year”, together with the University of Korea, specialists are being trained under a joint program.
In cooperation with professors from the University of Korea, 2 textbooks were prepared and introduced into the educational process .In 2018, a research center was established at the department in collaboration with Korea University, equipped with modern laboratory equipment for measuring environmental factors.
D.m.s. Salomova Feruza Ibodullaevna. From 2011 to this day, the Department of Environmental Hygiene is headed by d.m.s., Associate Professor Salomova Feruza Ibodullaevna. She is the author of more than 200 scientific papers, 6 monographs and 8 textbooks. Prepared 2 doctors of medical sciences.
