In honor of May 9 – the Day of Remembrance and Honor, the faculty members of the Department of Environmental Hygiene at Tashkent State Medical University visited the home of our esteemed teacher and pride of the university, Professor Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ponomareva, to inquire about her health and well-being.
Professor Ponomareva is regarded as one of the great mentors who established her own school in the field of medical prevention. In 1962, she was admitted to the Sanitary-Hygiene Faculty of the Tashkent State Medical Institute and graduated with honors in 1968.
After the restructuring of the institute in September 1990, she initially led the Department of General and Radiation Hygiene at the Second Tashkent State Medical Institute, which later became part of the Tashkent Medical Academy. During the 2012–2013 academic year, she continued her service as a professor in the same department.
In 1972, she defended her PhD dissertation on “The Effect of Organochlorine Pesticides on the Immune System.” In 1992, she defended her doctoral dissertation in Saint Petersburg on the topic “Hygienic Aspects of Environmental Pollution with Nitrosating Compounds and Pesticides and Their Role in Cancer Development.” In 1993, she was awarded the academic title of Professor.
We wish our beloved mentor a long life and continued strength in her efforts to guide students on the path of knowledge, never tiring in her dedication to education.
